NEW ORLEANS (AP) _ Gov. Mike Foster called the New Orleans Saints on Wednesday to tell them he expects the Office of Homeland Security to grant special event status to the Super Bowl.
``It’s not official, but he sounds like it’s a done deal,″ said Arnold Fielkow, director of administration for the Saints. ``It’s good news because it means some extra funds and security people for the game.″
The governor, New Orleans Mayor Marc Morial and the NFL had asked Homeland Security director Tom Ridge to grant the designation that would authorize security help from federal sources, including the FBI and secret service.
``It’s good news because it will make the Super Bowl even better,″ Fielkow said.
