New Alexandria man enters guilty plea in 2016 fatal accident

November 9, 2018

A New Alexandria man pleaded guilty Monday to causing a fatal vehicle collision two years ago resulting in the death of a Blairsville woman as she drove with her 9-month-old great-granddaughter.

Police said Samuel Robert Grace, 22, was speeding Oct. 17, 2016, as he drove on state Route 982 in Derry Township, near Laughlin Farm Road, when his vehicle crossed over the center line and into oncoming traffic. His vehicle struck a car driven by 71-year-old Harriet Malloy, who died from injuries she suffered in the collision.

The baby, who was secured in a rear car seat, was not injured, police said.

Grace, according to police, was traveling more than 70 mph a few seconds before the collision. The speed limit on the road is 40 mph, police said.

Grace pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide, reckless endangerment and driving at an unsafe speed.

He will be sentenced in December by Westmoreland County Common Pleas Court Judge Christopher Feliciani.
