Pepperdine 80, Gonzaga 56
SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) _ Doug Christie and Geoff Lear combined for 45 points as league-leading Pepperdine overpowered Gonzaga 80-56 in a West Coast Conference basketball game Saturday night.
Pepperdine (15-8, 9-10) took the lead for good, 6-5, on a pair of Christie free throws with 15:51 left in the half. Gonzaga (12-11, 3-7) rallied within four, 23-19, on a basket by Jarrod Davis.
Pepperdine was ahead 38-28 at halftime. In the second half, Pepperdine stretched its lead to as many as 28 points when Rex Manu sank a basket from 16 feet out.
Christie scored 24 points and Lear 21 for Pepperdine. Lear also pulled in 15 rebounds.
Matt Stanford had 12 points, Eric Brady 11 and Jarrod Davis 10 for Gonzaga.
Pepperdine shot 57.4 percent from the field compared to 36 percent for Gonzaga.
