14-year-old boy shot in apparent botched robbery
EAST HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — A 14-year-old Connecticut youth is recovering at a local hospital after being shot in the chest in an apparent robbery gone wrong.
East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo Jr. said at a news conference Thursday, the teen was shot around noon in an alley connecting Thompson Avenue and Grove J. Tuttle Elementary School.
The teen is recovering at Yale New Haven Hospital in stable condition and is conscious and talking.
Maturo said he and others believe it was a “botched robbery” and that the victim may have known the suspect. The teen also reportedly fled the scene after being shot.
Police are still looking for the suspect and is identified as a black male in his late teens and reportedly left the scene in a silver Honda.
