James O’Connor, Hunt sign with Queensland Reds

August 29, 2014

BRISBANE, Australia (AP) — Former Wallaby James O’Connor and ex-rugby league international and Australian Rules player Karmichael Hunt have signed contracts to play with Super Rugby’s Queensland Reds next season.

The Reds said Friday that Hunt, the second athlete after Israel Folau to play in three Australian football codes — rugby league, rugby union and Australian Rules — signed a three-year contract.

Hunt won a National Rugby League premiership with the Brisbane Broncos and represented Australia in 2006. He made his Australian Football League debut for the Gold Coast Suns in 2011.

O’Connor has had a troubled history in Australia due to off-field problems, including an incident which saw him escorted from Perth airport ahead of a flight last year. He has 44 test caps for Australia and played most recently for London Irish.
