The possibility of another comeback by Sugar Ray Leonard was raised Tuesda

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) _ The possibility of another comeback by Sugar Ray Leonard was raised Tuesday by Emanuel Steward, the manager-trainer of Milton McCrory, the World Boxing Council welterweight champion.

Steward said that if McCrory beats World Boxing Association champion Don Curry on Friday night for the undisputed welterweight title, he would make one title defense before moving up to junior middleweight unless he got a fight with Leonard.

″I’m not going to say any more,″ Steward said.

Then he said: ″There are certain things I know that are going on. Leonard is training regularly. He’s been boxing O’Sullivan.″

Leonard has been working with welterweight Shawn O’Sullivan of Canada, a 1984 Olympic silver medalist. Sullivan is being advised by attorney Mike Trainer, who managed Leonard’s career.

Leonard, who will be here as an HBO television commentator for the McCrory- Curry fight, was not available for comment. Nor was Trainer.

″No way,″ Bob Arum, who is promoting Friday’s fight, said of a Leonard comeback to fight McCrory.

Leonard retired as undisputed welterweight champion in 1982 after retinal surgery on his right eye. He came back in May, 1984. But after getting up from a fourth-round knockdown, to stop Kevin Howard, he again announced his retirement.
