Talking with teachers when not in school

September 25, 2018

I understand that the issue of out-of-class communication between teachers and students can be an issue is school systems. Some school districts have even told teachers they aren’t allowed to do so.

But as a student involved in a lot of activities, I personally believe that being able to send texts to my teachers who double as an activity sponsor is the best way to communicate with them in a timely manner.

Say it is the day of a speech meet and I am so sick I know I won’t make it even through bus ride. In that case, being able to text my speech coach saying that I won’t be there makes it easier for both of us.

This is just one example, and I know it can be an issue on other side of things. I know that there can be issues, but that is when the school board has to trust that the teacher who was hired to know how to handle the situation.

If it becomes an issue in the school, make it part the the interview process. The issue can be avoided in many ways. I personally believe that with the right faculty and staff then this should never be an issue with school.
