Fire weather warning issued for southern CT

April 4, 2019

With today’s windy and dry conditions favorable for fire spread, a red flag warning has been issued for southern Connecticut until 8 p.m.

The warning went into effect at 10 a.m. due to the combination of gusty winds, low relative humidity and dry fuels in today’s forecast.

These conditions “may promote the rapid spread of wildfires if ignition occurs” and create a “significantly elevated fire growth potential,” according to the National Weather Service.

The red flag warning is also in effect for southeast New York and northeast New Jersey today.

Today’s forecast calls for relative humidity of 10% to 15%, northwest winds of 10 to 20 mph and gusts up to 35 mph — with the highest winds across southern Connecticut.
