Ear nearly lost in late-night bar fight
A man’s ear was cut nearly off early Monday outside a bar south of downtown, Fort Wayne police said.
Police were called about 1:45 a.m. to Los Lamos, 2202 Fairfield Ave., where the man was being loaded into an ambulance. Medics said the top of the man’s left ear was sliced nearly off and was bleeding heavily.
Witnesses outside the bar said a man yelled, “I’ll fight you one on one” and heard “what sounded like a bunch of people fighting,” according to a report from the Fort Wayne Police Department.
Men ran from the scene, according to witnesses, and a security guard told investigators they were regulars at the bar.
Two men were stopped by police nearby, but the injured man said he couldn’t identify his attacker, the report said.
Bar employees told police surveillance cameras might have captured the attack, but “management was unable to figure out the video system,” police wrote in the report.
The victim was taken to the hospital. The men who police believed might have been involved walked away from the bar after police released them, the report said.
