FRESNO, Calif. (AP) _ Jonas Lewis rushed for 253 yards and two touchdowns to lead San Diego State to a 20-19 victory over Fresno State on Saturday.

Lewis scored on a 1-yard run early in the fourth quarter to give San Diego State (5-6 overall, 4-3 Western Athletic Conference) the lead for good.

Fresno State (5-6, 4-3) had a 19-7 halftime lead but managed just 18 second-half rushing yards on a muddy field.

Lewis scored on a 49-yard run in the first quarter to give the Aztecs an early lead. Fresno State cut the lead to 7-6 on Billy Volek’s 8-yard pass to Michael Pittman.

Pittman and Volek then reversed roles to connect on a 30-yard scoring pass off an option play. Less than two minutes later, Efrain Guizar picked off a pass by San Diego State quarterback Spencer Brinton and returned it 26 yards for a score.

Brinton, who passed for 221 yards, connected with Taj Johnson on a 50-yard touchdown early in the third quarter to trim the lead to 19-14.

San Diego State finished with 453 yards in total offense compared with 197 for Fresno State.
