Bail denied in Puerto Rico murder-for-hire case
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — A judge in Puerto Rico has denied bail to a man accused of being a co-conspirator in a 2005 murder-for-hire scheme targeting a wealthy Canadian.
An attorney for Jose Ferrer Sosa said Friday that his client is innocent.
Ferrer is the ex-boyfriend of a woman whose sister was arrested Sunday in Spain. Aurea Vazquez Rijos was charged in 2008 with hiring a man to kill her husband, Adam Anhang, in Puerto Rico’s capital. Her extradition could take nine months.
Her sister, Marcia Vazquez, also was arrested and has a bond hearing on July 15.
Anhang was beaten and stabbed as he walked with Vazquez near a restaurant he had bought for her. A wrongfully convicted Puerto Rican man was released in 2008 after another man was indicted.
