He had to work overtime but Chordale Booker of Stamford remained unbeaten in his professional boxing career.
Booker improved his pro record to 12-0 late Saturday night as he won by split decision over Ve Shawn Owens of Minneapolis on the undercard of the Shawn Porter-Danny Garcia boxing event at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Booker, a 5-foot-9, 175-pound super welterweight, defeated the 5-foot-10, 178-pound Owens (9-2) despite the fact the bout started at 1 a.m. last Sunday morning. Since the Porter-Garcia fight was part of a boxing card televised on Showtime, the undercard bouts were fought after the main event at Barclays Center.
Booker, who has six knockouts on his boxing ledger, is now 4-0 in 2018. Booker was not allowed to fight for months after a bout in October 2017 when the New York State Athetic Commission had concerns about the condition of Booker’s eye.
Thus far in 2018, Booker has defeated Emmanuel Sanchez (unanimous decision; March 3; Barclays Center), Travis Hartman (TKO; April 28; El Paso), Jose Manuel Saint Hilaire (TKO; August 11; Dominican Republic) and now Owens.
