Alabama man accused of fatally shooting co-worker in van
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama man is accused of fatally shooting his co-worker in the head as they traveled in a company van on a highway.
Al.com reports 27-year-old Justin Daniel Watts was charged with murder in the Thursday death of 34-year-old Martez Jermain Haynes.
The men had been riding in a company van on Interstate 565 in Huntsville with several other people when the shooting happened. Lt. Michael Johnson says witnesses in the van heard Watts say that the victim had shot himself. Authorities say Watts later told authorities he fired the gun.
Johnson says police haven’t identified a motive for the killing. Police haven’t released the name of the business, which they identified as a Birmingham-area cleaning company.
It’s unclear if Watts has a lawyer who could comment.
