Japanese Runner Wins New Zealand Race

ROTORUA, New Zealand (AP) _ Katsumi Tsuchiya of Japan won Sunday’s Rotorua marathon, the first overseas runner to win the event.
On a humid day, the 27-year-old Tsuchiya finished in 2 hours, 25 minutes, 59 seconds, the slowest time in 31 years. Mark Bright of New Zealand was second, 3 1/2 minutes back.
Eveline Coombe, formerly of Germany but now based in Auckland, won the women’s event in 3:00.18.
