Donald B. Skjervem -- Rochester

Donald Barton Skjervem, 92, of Rochester, passed away peacefully on Dec. 21, 2018, at the Stewartville Care Center.

Don was born on May 31, 1926, in Rochester, to Nels and Ella (Moran) Skjervem. He grew up in Rochester and graduated from Rochester High School. Following high school, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and proudly served under General George S. Patton in the 94th Infantry Division.

Returning home, he worked with his father at their family business, Skjervem Repair Shop, on Marion Road, and later retired from Mayo Clinic maintenance department in 1991.

He was an avid model airplane enthusiast who was a member of the local club, and finished many airplane projects. Don was a very giving man and was a longstanding member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester. He enjoyed spending time with his nieces, nephews, and all his extended family.

He is survived by his niece, Sharon Alcott of Washburn, Iowa; his great-nephews, Ronald McDowell of Charlotte, N.C., and Terry (Diane) Alcott of Washburn, Iowa; his great-nieces, Renee Koehler of Austin, Texas, and Tammy Alcott of Washburn, Iowa; his great-great-nieces, Hayley and Cady; and his great-great-nephews, Danny, Rob and Ryan.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Musetta McDowell; his nephew, Bill McDowell; and his nephew-in-law, Roy Alcott.

The funeral service for Donald will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester, with Pastor Norm Wahl officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens Cemetery of Rochester.
