Two Goals Enough for Lions to Edge WA

Chelmsford put 47 shots net and scored twice to earn a tough 2-1 win over Westford Academy in boys hockey action on Saturday.


Senior goalie Drew Blodgett made 35 saves for Chelmsford (2-0-1).

Christian Gastonguay and Ben Pitts had the goals for the Lions. Assists went to Brett Nolan, Tommy Hopkins, Matt Miner and Bobby Turner.

Westford’s goal was scored by Kevin Egan, a junior defenseman. Ryan McCarthy assisted on the goal.

Grey Ghost goalie Joe Cornetta made 45 saves but WA slipped to 0-3.

Melrose 4

Wilmington 3

Melrose netted the game-winner with 5 minutes to play in a back-and-forth Middlesex League matchup in Saugus.

For Wilmington (2-2), Christian Robarge had a goal and an assist. Joe Hill and Ryan Barrett had short-handed goals for the Wildcats.

Conlin Duffy dished out 2 assists while Jared Venezia and Conor Benoit had assists. WHS goalie Anthony Cuozzo made 26 saves.

Bishop Guertin 4

Hanover 2

Four different players scored for BG, which improved to 2-2.

Aaron Pratt (Groton), Patrick Madden (Pelham), Mike Kiley and Mike Schaaf found the net for the Cardinals. Chris Kiley picked up 2 assists in the win.

Littleton 7

Oakmont 3

Maddox Lizotte scored 2 goals and Justin Montepeluso had 3 assists to power Littleton (2-1-1).

James Peterson and Ryan Hunt each had a goal and an assist for the Tigers. Ben Hays, Nick Brown and Chris Berger also scored in the victory.


Westford Academy 6

Acton-Boxboro 3

Senior Jackie Ricko netted a pair of goals, while sophomore Meghan Mulhern had 3 assists for Westford (3-2).

Freshman Ava Golash added a goal and 2 assists for the Grey Ghosts.
