Brownsville fifth-graders win regional poster contest
The first- and second-place winners of the South Texas Poison Center’s 2019 poster contest are both from Brownsville. Mauro Labastida, a fifth-grade student at Jubilee Livingway Academy, took first for his cautionary poster titled “Children Act Fast, So Do Poisons.”
Second place in the poster contest went to Cristian Robledo, a fifth-grader at Victoria Heights Elementary, for his work titled “Poisons Span a Lifetime.”
Labastida and Robledo were presented with their awards at their respective schools on March 22. The Poison Center, part of UT Health San Antonio, holds the poster contest each to coincide with National Poison Prevention Week, which was March 17-23 this year.
