Kline To Perform in School Benefit
TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Kevin Kline is bringing Shakespeare to the heartland.
The Oscar and Tony Award winner will perform ``An Evening of Shakespeare″ on Feb. 22 at Washburn University.
Kline’s show is expected to raise big money for the Topeka Civic Theatre and Academy’s $5 million capital campaign _ Kline is donating the performance, with ticket prices ranging from $200 to $500.
``I believe every community should have its own theater, and it should be supported by the community,″ he said. ``I think the theater gives us something that movies cannot.″
Kline has won two Tony Awards for his stage work in ``On the Twentieth Century″ (1978) and ``The Pirates of Penzance″ (1981).
His films include ``The Big Chill″ (1983) and ``A Fish Called Wanda″ (1988), for which he won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. He also starred in last year’s ``In and Out,″ ``The Ice Storm″ and ``Fierce Creatures.″
