Morehead St. 77, E. Kentucky 55
MOREHEAD, Ky. (AP) _ Lee Coomler, making his first collegiate start, scored 20 points to lead Morehead State to a 77-55 Ohio Valley Conference victory over Eastern Kentucky Thursday night.
Eastern Kentucky (4-10, 1-4) was playing without two starters, Travis Inskeep and Daniel Sutton. Earlier Thursday, EKU had self-reported an inadvertent NCAA rules violation that resulted in a one-game suspension for both Inskeep and Sutton.
NCAA rules require a 12-hour class schedule for each student-athlete to maintain eligibility. It was found that Inskeep and Sutton had not registered for the necessary fulltime load prior to playing Monday at Eastern Illinois. Monday was the first day of classes at Eastern for the spring semester.
The two have since signed up for more hours, and the NCAA ruled that both players will become eligible after sitting out the Morehead game.
Doug Wyciskalla added 19 points for Morehead (3-10, 1-4), which broke a five-game losing streak.
Carlos Bess led Eastern with 12 points. Chris Fitzgerald and Matt Simons had 10 each for the Colonels.
