Duquesne 76, Akron 75, OT

AKRON, Ohio (AP) _ Tom Pipkins scored 26 points and Duquesne overcame a 13-point Akron lead in regulation and squandered an eight-point lead in overtime to beat the Zips 76-75 Sunday afternoon.

Akron’s Ryan Andrick, who finished with 15 points, made one free throw with five seconds left in overtime to make it 76-75 but missed the second and a chance to tie the game.

Akron (3-5) got the rebound but lost the ball out of bounds to Duquesne (5-3) with less than one second left.

The Zips led 37-28 at halftime and extended their lead to 13 points three times, the final time at 49-36 with 12:47 left in the second half.

Duquesne outscored Akron 11-0 to lead 60-56 with 5:05 left in regulation. Akron outscored Duquesne 8-1 to lead 65-63 with 1:33 left but Terrell Bridges’ layup with 23 seconds left sent the game into overtime.

Duquesne scored the first eight points in overtime to lead 73-65 with 2:33 left. Akron then went on a 9-2 run to come within 75-74 with 52 seconds left but Kevin Price’s free throw with 15 seconds left put Duquesne ahead 76-74.

Akron was led by Ali Kart’s 16 points.
