‘Greta Garbo’ heading to Kankakee Public Library
Greta Garbo, or someone who closely resembles her, is coming to the Kankakee Public Library.
At 7 p.m., Thursday, Jillann Gabrielle will perform in “The Garbo: The Musical.” “The Garbo” is a one-woman show about Greta Garbo, someone who was considered to be the greatest film actress of all time, as she finds herself in the middle of a nightmare with two of her obsessed long-term lovers: the Spanish-American poet, playwright, screenwriter and adamant lesbian of her day, Mercedes de Acosta; and the acid-tongued, witty, bisexual British theatrical designer and photographer to the stars, Cecil Beaton.
This Victor/Victoria-esque trio, all played by Gabrielle, unfolds Greta’s spicy and revealing story and answers questions the world has long wanted to know.
“The Garbo’s” scintillating songs and humorous monologues make this one-woman musical insightful, fun and compelling.
Gabrielle, a Kankakee resident from 1964-71, has been a successful singer, actress, producer and instructor her entire professional life and now has realized her dream of becoming a writer.
This program will be free and open to the public.
