CANTON, Ill. (AP) — Negotiators for Spoon River College and its faculty have reached a tentative contract agreement.

The faculty had filed an intent-to-strike notice with the Illinois Education Labor Relations Board. But the teachers are now scheduled to discuss the proposed contract at a meeting Friday.

Negotiators reached the tentative deal after nine hours of talks with the help of a federal mediator.

College President Curt Oldfield tells WGIL Radio (http://bit.ly/VvywQ3 ) that he thinks the agreement benefits both sides.

Faculty President Stacy Swanson says she thinks the deal will be acceptable to the rest of the educators. Swanson says she couldn't comment specifically on the terms of the tentative pact.
