WASHINGTON — In an annual Thanksgiving tradition, President Donald Trump has used the power of his office to keep a pair of turkeys from South Dakota off the holiday table. Trump’s poultry pardon means the two turkeys — a 39-pound bird named Peas and a 41-pounder named Carrots — will spend the rest of their lives at a Virginia farm. RAPID CITY, S.D. — A California woman who won $5.2 million in a lottery has pleaded guilty in federal court in South Dakota to scamming six people in the wake of her win. Judy Carroll, of El Cajon, California, and her husband won the California lottery in 1989. Authorities say Carroll scammed people including a friend in South Dakota out of money in part by telling them the IRS had frozen her assets because she owed tax money. SENT: 260 words.
