French President, British Queen Reportedly Have Family Ties
PARIS (AP) _ President Francois Mitterrand has been a proponent of expanding Britain’s links to continental Europe. A newspaper reported Monday that Mitterrand has genealogical links with Britain as well.
Liberation said Mitterrand, a Socialist with a liking for regal ceremonies, is a distant cousin of Queen Elizabeth II.
According to the newspaper, Mitterrand’s maternal grandmother, Eugenie Faure-Labouhardie, was the granddaughter of Bernard de Javrezac. Javrezac was part of the Barbezieres dynasty, which produced such descendants as England’s King George II, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II.
