Edmonds officials to consider gun safety measure

July 6, 2018

SEATTLE (AP) — Officials in a city north of Seattle are proposing legislation that aims for gun owners to better secure their weapons.

KCPQ-TV reports Edmonds City Council President Mike Nelson recently announced the proposal that would require guns to be locked up in homes.

The Edmonds gun safety measure would be similar to legislation that Seattle officials are considering.

Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan says her proposal would require guns to be locked in safes. Gun owners found in violation could be fined up to $10,000.

Durkan says the measure is not anti-gun because “any responsible gun owner knows they should keep their weapon locked.”
