January 14, 1985

WASHINGTON (AP) _ Declaring that ″the dream lives on,″ the youngest child of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., exhorted a memorial service Monday to pursue her father’s goals.

″There are those who believed that if they killed the dreamer, that they would kill the dream,″ said Bernice Albertine King, the late civil rights leader’s daughter.

″I am here to tell you that the dream lives on, as long as there are those who are willing to stand up for freedom. ... They may have slain the dreamer, but his light shines on,″ Ms. King added.

Ms. King was the keynote speaker at a service Monday at the Department of Health and Human Services commemorating the 56th birthday on Tuesday of the civil rights leader, who was murdered in Memphis, Tenn., in 1968.
