Cold spell costs Raiders
An inability to score points from the field over the final six-plus minutes of play cost Central Community College Columbus men’s basketball a win over NJCAA No. 6 ranked Southwestern Community College.
CCC, coming off its first win of the season the night before over the York College JV, dropped to 1-6 with a 71-68 loss to the Spartans.
The Raiders led 66-59 with just over seven minutes remaining then missed every field goal attempt the rest of the way. The Raiders lone points over that stretch came on free throws by Tre’vion Crawford with 1:43 remaining.
His makes from the line stopped an 11-0 run for Southwestern that completely erased the seven-point deficit.
CCC stayed in the game with stops on the defensive end but missed a jumper by Cooper Pratt with 58 seconds left that would have tied it and missed a 3 by Manape Cleveland from the right wing with five seconds left that would have taken the lead.
Southwestern made just 1 of 2 at the line after the ensuing foul leaving the door a crack open but Crawford’s running 3 from the top of the key as the buzzer sounded clanked off the back iron.
Crawford led CCC off the bench with 24 points.
