Veterans Day is a time to honor all those who have served

Today is Veterans Day, a day in which everyone who has served in the military is honored in the United States.

It is an official holiday, meaning most government offices and select businesses will be closed on Monday. The Katy City Council, which had its regularly scheduled meeting set for Monday, has canceled its meeting in observance of the day.

Katy ISD will hold its regularly scheduled classes on Monday and the School Board will meet in the evening. District trustees will meet in a regular meeting at the district’s Education Support Complex, 6301 S. Stadium Lane, Katy. Business Builders Breakfast

The Katy Area Chamber of Commerce’s Business Builders Breakfast will be Tuesday, Nov. 13, from 6:45 to 8 a.m. It will be hosted by The Toasted Yolk Cafe, 98 W. Grand Parkway S. No. 11. The event offers an opportunity to network with board members. The cost is $20 for members and nonmembers. Reservations are due by noon, Monday, Nov. 12. Public hearing

The Katy Planning and Zoning Commission will conduct a public hearing at City Hall, 901 Ave. C., at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, to establish a special-use permit for Hispanic Pentecostal Missionary Church at 653 Pin Oak Road, Suite A-7. Two other churches also are requested special-use permits: The Church at Cane Island at 5315 Highway Blvd., and Parkway Fellowship at 5819 10th St., Suite A. The agenda also includes changing the zoning classification from R-1 (Single Family District) to M (Industrial District) for a 150.003 acre tract between Highway 90 and U.S. 10.

Ribbon Cutting

Profile by Sanford is celebrating its grand opening on Wednesday, Nov. 14, with the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce. The event will be 4-7 p.m. and includes a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4:30 p.m. The company’s goal is to help people lose weight through a personalized nutrition, activity and lifestyle coaching program. Craft Beer, Salad tasting

Snappy Salads, 19111 Katy Freeway, will host a craft beer and craft salad tasting event on Wednesday, Nov. 14, from 6-8 p.m. All proceeds from ticket sales will go to the Citizens Environmental Coalition. The event will be a casual walk-around craft beer and food tasting. There will also be a photo booth, giveaways and takeaways. The tasting is open to the public, but seating is limited.
