KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) _ Kansas City will play host to the 2001 U.S. Olympic Congress and Board of Directors meeting, The Greater Kansas City Sports Foundation announced Wednesday.

The event is expected to attract more than 1,000 people, including Olympic officials, athletes and sponsors. Kansas City was chosen from among 40 cities that submitted bids.

The week-long event is planned for October 2001, but precise dates have not been set, Joel Reinoehl of the sports commission said Wednesday night.

Other future sites are Boston in 2002, San Diego in 2003, Colorado Springs, Colo., in 2004, Charlotte, N.C., in 2005 and San Antonio in 2006.
