LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) _ Imadeed has been euthanized less than three weeks after tearing ligaments in her right foreleg during a nasty spill at Belmont Park.
The 5-year-old daughter of Alydeed out of Grade I winner Imah was euthanized at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital on June 20.
The decision to put her down was made because full circulation never returned to her foot after the injury, Claiborne Farm spokeswoman Dell Hancock said.
``It was a hard battle to fight,″ Hancock said. ``We tried it, but it was insurmountable.″
The 13-horse field in the June 8 WNBC Stakes for older fillies and mares was tightly bunched when Imadeed, who was briefly in the lead, collided with Pleasant County.
Imadeed, ridden by John Velazquez, fell first and Pleasant County, ridden by Eibar Coa, tumbled over her as the two rounded the final turn and entered the stretch.
Despite the injury, Imadeed was able to get to her feet. Pleasant County, who sustained a fatal skull injury, remained prone on the track until she was taken away by horse ambulance.
Imadeed won six of 17 career starts and earned $213,380.
