After long road tour, Husker softball team set to begin homestand
After spending the first seven weeks of the season on the road, the Nebraska softball team will finally get a chance to play a game at Bowlin Stadium.
The Huskers (10-16) will host a doubleheader against Drake (16-13) beginning at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
In fact, Nebraska will get good use of its park in the coming weeks. Thirteen of the Huskers’ next 17 games are at home.
NU enters Tuesday’s double on a 10-game losing streak. The Huskers hope history will help get them back on track. They’ve won 12 of their previous 13 home openers.
Nebraska will look to get its offense on track before a weekend home series against Illinois. NU has been shut out in five of its past six games, including two at No. 25 Michigan. The offense has struggled to piece together productive innings. NU’s only two runs in the entire series against Michigan came off the bat of Samantha Owen, who hit a two-run homer in the second game.
The Huskers will likely see Drake’s Nicole Newman in the circle. She is 9-6 with a 1.56 earned-run average. Her 155 strikeouts rank second nationally behind Florida’s Kelly Barnhill (156).
