Message in a bottle answered after 30 years
OSLO, Norway (AP) _ Thirty years is a long time to wait for a reply to a letter, but Jytte Laursen isn’t complaining.
For one thing, she didn’t know who she was writing to. For another, she didn’t use the fastest method _ she put it in a bottle and threw it into the ocean off Denmark, when she was 13 years old and her last name was Ebbessen.
The bottle drifted at least 870 miles to Andoya, a Norwegian island 185 miles north of the Arctic Circle.
``The letter was completely dry, and was written in pencil,″ said Henry Karoliussen, who found the bottle on the beach two weeks ago and responded.
In the intervening three decades, the girl had grown up, married, changed her name and moved to another town, but the Danish postal service tracked her down, the Andoyposten newspaper reported Thursday.
