Frederick W. Gohlke, 78, of Chebanse, passed away Saturday (Jan. 5, 2019) at Presence St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee.
He was born March 21, 1940, in Kankakee, the son of Edward and Viola Gohlke.
Frederick married Reatta Surprenant on Oct. 19, 1973, at St. George Catholic Church.
He retired from Armstrong after 40 years of service.
Frederick was a Chicago Cubs, Seattle Seahawks and NASCAR fan. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during the Vietnam War.
Frederick was a parishioner of St. James Catholic Church in Irwin.
Surviving are his wife, Reatta Gohlke, of Chebanse; one son and daughter-in-law, Nathan and Alina Gohlke, of Ohio; one daughter and son-in-law, Natalie and Todd Mesewicz, of Limestone; and three grandchildren, Luke, Logan and Mary.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and one brother, Robert.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Funeral Home in Kankakee. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at St. James Catholic Church in Irwin. The Rev. Dan Belanger will celebrate the Mass. Interment will follow in St. James Catholic Cemetery in Irwin.
