SE Louisiana’s Schwaner named Southland player of the year
HAMMOND, La. (AP) — Southeastern Louisiana third baseman Taylor Schwaner has been named the Southland Conference player of the year.
Schwaner hit .321 with 13 home runs, 13 doubles, four triples and 68 runs batted in during the regular season.
The junior from Slidell, Louisiana, ranks seventh nationally in RBI, and is second in the conference in both triples and home runs.
His slugging percentage of .637 is third in the league and he ranks in the Southland’s top 10 in stolen bases with 14, runs scored with 46 and walks with 38.
Schwaner was one of two Lions named first-team all-conference, along with pitcher Mac Sceroler, who is 9-1 with a 2.83 earned-run average.
The Lions open Southland Conference tournament play in Sugar Land, Texas, on Wednesday against the University of New Orleans.
