Police open homicide investigation after beating victim dies
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas detectives have opened an investigation into the death of a woman who was beaten more than a month ago.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that 59-year-old Shelley Toyama was hospitalized Jan. 13 and died Feb. 15 at the hospital.
Authorities say she was “beaten unconscious” and had severe head injuries.
The Clark County coroner has ruled her death a homicide.
Las Vegas police spokesman Larry Hadfield said no arrests had been made as of Tuesday night. No other details surrounding the incident were immediately available.
Toyama’s slaying marked the 36th homicide in Clark County this year and the 30th investigated by Las Vegas police.
