The Master’s 88, Central Washington 75
TULSA, Okla. (AP) _ The Master’s came out hot in the second half for the second straight night, as Mike Pemberthy hit six 3-pointers to lead the Mustangs to an 88-75 victory over Central Washington in the NAIA tournament Thursday.
Pemberthy hit 3s from a set shot, on the run and one from 24 feet out as the Mustangs (31-4) made eight of their first nine shots and expanded a 31-29 halftime lead to 55-39.
In a win over Southwestern Oklahoma in the first round, the Mustangs made their first 11 field goals of the second half.
Leon Johnson played strong in the second half for the Wildcats (20-14), scoring 20 of his 25 points.
His layup pulled Central Washington to within 70-60 with 5:07 left, but The Master’s, located in Santa Clarita, Calif., made its free throws and built its lead up to 85-66 with just over a minute to play.
Penberthy finished with 25 points and Doug Leaman added 20 for the Mustangs, who play top-seeded Belmont in the quarterfinals Friday night.
Ryan Pepper led the Wildcats with 27 points.
