July 6, 2018

NEWMARKET, N.H. (AP) — Police in New Hampshire say a man fled the scene of a reported domestic assault and was arrested in a nearby town.

Police in Newmarket say they were called to a home on Thursday afternoon. They found a woman who had been struck in the head with a firearm. They tried to make contact with a suspect, and put the neighborhood under lockdown before they learned he had fled.

Police found the man in Durham carrying a loaded 9 mm pistol. They identified him as 38-year-old Geoffrey Sneirson, of Newmarket, and charged him with domestic violence and second-degree assault in Newmarket, and simple assault on a police officer and resisting arrest in Durham.

Sneirson was expected to be arraigned Friday. It wasn’t immediately known if he had a lawyer.
