Somerset Garden Club starts another year in the green

March 12, 2019

The Somerset Garden Club is deep into plans to celebrate its theme for 2019, “Green Grows the Garden.”

During the group’s monthly meeting at Laurel Arts on Monday, there was a lot of talk, a lot of green outfits and a lot of anticipation. The group showcased a plaque honoring the theme.

“This has been the guiding plan for the planting, activities and programs for the past two-year term,” Nerita Brant, co-president of the club, said. She, along with co-president, Vonnie Baldiswieler, developed the program and invited speakers supporting the theme.

Speakers have discussed the growth of hydrangeas, winter care and pruning, new perennials, kitchen herb gardens, floral designs and mushrooms, she said.

The club’s activities include Uptown planting around the light poles and on The Diamond, work at Trinity Park, hosting the annual yard and garden sale and the pine wreath decorating sale, along with taking trips to local gardens and other events.

The club meets the second Monday of each month at Laurel Arts and new members are welcome, Brant said.
