Crazier, richer Asians: Smash rom com is getting a sequel

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- “Crazy Rich Asians” is getting a sequel.

The cast and crew of the romantic comedy will be back for an adaptation of “China Rich Girlfriend,” the second book in Kevin Kwan’s trilogy, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

For those who haven’t read it, “China Rich Girlfriend” picks up two years after the events of the “Crazy Rich Asians.” Nick and Rachel, played in the film by Henry Golding and Constance We, are planning their wedding. Rachel, meanwhile, is also busy looking for her long-lost father. Along the way, we meet crazier, richer Asians.

Director Jon M. Chu, and screenwriters Peter Chiarelli and Adele Lim are already on board for the sequel, THR reported. No word yet on which of the principals in the cast will return, or when the movie might arrive in theaters.

“Crazy Rich Asians” premiered just a week ago, earning an impressive $35 million over its first five days. The film, which scored the biggest opening for a romantic comedy in three years, has been praised by critics and audiences alike not only for its content but also for its portrayal of a long underrepresented segment of the population.

‘Crazy Rich Asians’ is groundbreaking, but that’s not the only reason you should see it
