Billerica North Champs
CAMBRIDGE -- Billerica High captured the North Sectional boys swimming championship Sunday at MIT.
The Indians posted a score of 170 to easily defeat Methuen (114), Dracut (37) and Stoneham (33).
Junior Matthew St. John had a huge day for Billerica, winning two events and being part of two winning relays.
On the girls side, Andover was the winner with a score of 411. Acton-Boxboro took third (204.5), Chelmsford was fifth (140.5), Central swam to seventh (131.5), Lowell collected 15th (43) and Burlington was 16th (23).
Billerica won the 200-yard medley relay in 2:03.02 behind Craig Fiorino, Joseph Jin, Matthew St. John and Christian Belden.
The Indians also claimed the 200 freestyle relay as Belden, Jin, Fiorino and St. John clocked a 1:48.36.
St. John captured the 200 freestyle in 2:01.04 and the 500 freestyle in 5:36.38, one spot of the runner-up, Fiorino, who finished in 5:54.46. Jin placed second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.57. Belden took third in the 50 freestyle in 28.34.
Christian Soriano captured the 50 freestyle in 25.91 and Soriano swam to second in the 200 freestyle in 2:02.89.
Sophomore Laura Latham won the 100 butterfly in 57.64 and swam to fourth in the 50 freestyle in 24.90.
The Lions were third in the 200 freestyle relay with Emma Reitman, Kelly Marshall, Alexandra Kam and Laura Latham in 1:45.18.
Swimming to sixth in the 400 freestyle relay were Kam, Kelly Marshall, Neva Sa and Latham in 3:50.74. The team of Brynn Murray, Courtney Morgan, Melia Marshall and Reitman was eighth in the 200 medley relay in 1:58.50. Morgan earned ninth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.80. Alana Erlandson took 10th in the 1-meter diving with a score of 310.45.
Zoe Szczesuil claimed eighth in the 500 freestyle in 5:37.01. Sophia Cigliano placed 11th in the 200 freestyle in 2:05.54.
