Applications for the AWESOME/MIT “AWE” Scholarship to Be Accepted Beginning September 15, 2018

September 6, 2018

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sep 6, 2018--The MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics and AWESOME (Achieving Women’s Excellence in Supply Chain Operations, Management and Education), an industry-wide organization for senior-level women in the supply chain field, have announced a full-tuition scholarship for a woman who wants to pursue a master’s degree in Supply Chain Management at MIT. The AWESOME/MIT Advancing Women through Education (AWE) Scholarship will be awarded for the 2019-2020 school year. Applications will be accepted beginning September 15, 2018, and should be submitted no later than January 1, 2019.

The 10-month Supply Chain Management Residential (SCMr) program is designed for early-career supply chain professionals who want to return to school to receive advanced, specialized training in supply chain management. To be eligible for admission to the SCMr program and consideration for the AWESOME/MIT AWE Scholarship, women must have a minimum of two years of relevant work experience (five years is preferred). Students with strong quantitative skills, from a wide variety of backgrounds and disciplines, including engineering, science, business, economics, finance, math, and computer science, are encouraged to apply.

In 2017, MIT’s SCMr program was ranked as the world’s No. 1 graduate business program in supply chain and logistics by Eduniversal, the Paris-based global rating agency for higher education. This is the second consecutive time the MIT master’s program has been ranked No. 1 by Eduniversal.

According to Dr. Bruce Arntzen, Executive Director of MIT’s Supply Chain Management Program, “By having our students work directly with researchers and industry experts on complex and challenging problems in all aspects of supply chain management, we make sure our students are prepared to propel their classroom and laboratory learning straight into industry.”

Potential students wishing to be considered for this scholarship will note their candidacy in their MIT applications. Along with the video statements required by MIT, a response to an additional question beyond the standard SCMr application materials is required for scholarship consideration. MIT will review all applications and forward the top three finalists to AWESOME to select one recipient from the pool of candidates.

AWESOME’s Executive Director Heather Sheehan said, “We are excited to support the opportunity for qualified, high-potential women in the field to expand their education and pursue a master’s degree in supply chain management. MIT’s program is among the best in the world, and this scholarship will make a meaningful difference for the individual and for the future of women’s supply chain leadership.

The AWE Scholarship, which equates to approximately a $72,000 value, will be announced in March 2019, and the awardee will begin the SCMr program in August 2019. She also will attend the annual AWESOME Symposium in May of 2020 to speak about her experience in the SCMr program and her future career aspirations.
