Iowa fans make the trek again
Kyle Doerring, his father, Bret Doerring, and Mark Clymer made the 1,150-mile journey for the fourth consecutive year from Newton, Iowa, to Darlington.
The guys said they have kept coming back to the race for the camaraderie of the infield and the welcoming nature of Darlington and South Carolina.
“They welcome us with open arms,” Bret said.
The guys made friends with their neighbors the first year they attended the race and continue to reconnect with the neighbors each year. They also called the infield one big family.
“It’s like we’ve been lifelong friends,” Bret said.
Their favorite drivers are the underdogs and Chase Elliott, the driver of the No. 9 Chevy Camaro ZL1 for Hendrick Motorsports.
