Andre Greipel to miss 2015 Tour Down Under
ADELAIDE, Australia (AP) — Two-time champion Andre Greipel of Germany will miss January’s Tour Down Under cycle race in a radical change to his routine at the start of a new season.
Greipel has competed in the Australian race, opening event of the World Tour season, in each of the last eight years and has won 16 stages, more than any other rider. He won the race overall in 2008 and 2010.
But in 2015 he will instead start his season at the Mallorca Challenge in Spain in February.
Greipel said he “found it very difficult to dispense with the Tour Down Under. I want to change my focus in 2015 at certain points and I hope that by switching it will give impetus towards one or the other races in the (European) spring.”
