Poland’s Kamil Stoch wins ski jumping World Cup
WILLINGEN, Germany (AP) — World champion Kamil Stoch of Poland won his third ski jumping World Cup of the season on Saturday.
Stoch soared 139.5 meters in his first jump and 145.5 in his second for a total of 263.2 points, one more than local favorite Severin Freund, who had jumps of 139 and 147.5.
Jernej Damjan of Slovenia was third after jumps of 141.5 and 150.5 earned him 258.5 points.
Noriaki Kasai of Japan missed the podium by only 4.6 points after jumping 142 and 140, while Robert Kranjec of Slovenia was fifth.
Another Slovenian, Peter Prevc, leads the overall standings despite finishing seventh. Prevc has 848 points, and Stoch 821.
The last jump before the Sochi Olympics is scheduled for Sunday.
