BOOSIE BADAZZ ENTERS TESTIMONY OVER 2017 MALL INCIDENT
BILOXI, Miss. (AP) — Boosie BadAzz says a mall guard pepper-sprayed him because he’s black. The guard says it’s because he was part of an unruly crowd. The Biloxi Sun Herald reports the statements came during pretrial testimony in Boosie’s federal lawsuit stemming from an incident at a Dillard’s store with about 20 other people during Black Beach Weekend in Biloxi, Mississippi, in 2017. Guard Glen Kerley says he pepper-sprayed Boosie’s assistant for clenching his fists after being asked to leave. Kerley and police officer Matt Howard say the group attacked Kerley outside. Testimony indicates Kerley repeatedly pepper-sprayed Boosie. A Dillard’s employee testified Kerley was known for being aggressive to black shoppers. A settlement meeting is set for Jan. 17.

SHINEDOWN’S BRENT SMITH GETS SCARED WITH “GET UP”
NEW YORK (AP) — Shinedown singer Brent Smith has no problem being in front of thousands of people. He was terrified, though, the first time he listened to the finished song “Get Up” with bassist Eric Bass (BAS). Smith says after the second time they listened to it, Smith said, “You know what this is about, right?” and Bass replied, “Yeah, it’s about me.” Smith says it’s a song about Bass suffering from clinical depression and he thought he had crossed a line. He says not only did Bass remove that line, Bass wanted to go further. He suggested to Smith they have no restrictions in making their “Attention Attention” album. Smith jokes there was one thing that should have tipped Bass off that something was up. Smith usually takes a day or two to write lyrics, but on “Get Up,” he didn’t come back to the studio for more than a week.
