Dutch Lead World Cup Speedskating

HAMAR, Norway (AP) _ Gianni Romme led a Dutch sweep of the top four places in the men’s 5,000 meters in World Cup speedskating Sunday.
Cindy Klassen of Canada won the women’s 1,500 at the Viking Ship oval, the speedskating venue for the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics.
Among the Americans, Jennifer Rodriguez was third in the 1,500 and Derek Parra was seventh in the 5,000.
Romme covered the 5,000 in 6 minutes, 28.39 seconds, with compatriots Bob de Jong, Carl Verheijen and Jochem Uytdehaage taking the next three places.
Klassen finished in 1:58.07, followed by Germany’s Claudia Pechstein in 1:58.82 and Rodriguez in 1:58.86.
This season’s World Cup consists of nine meets in Europe, Asia and North America.
