Prince Narindrapong of Cambodia Dies
PARIS (AP) _ Prince Norodom Narindrapong of Cambodia died of a heart attack in his Paris apartment, embassy officials and relatives said Thursday. He was 49.
Narindrapong, one of 14 children of King Norodom Sihanouk, died early Tuesday and was found by police the next day, said Kim Virak, a spokesman for the Cambodian Embassy in Paris.
French President Jacques Chirac sent condolences to Cambodia’s monarch, conveying the ``great sadness″ France shared with the royal family and the Cambodian people at their loss.
In Cambodia, the royal family felt ``regret and sorrow″ over the death, said Narindrapong’s half-brother, Prince Norodom Ranariddh.
Narindrapong, who had been ill for some time, was not involved in Cambodian politics, said Ranariddh, who heads the royalist opposition party.
Narindrapong’s body was to be cremated in France and the ashes brought back to Cambodia for a religious ceremony.
