EDUCATIONAL CAMPAIGN-TAX ISSUE _ Lincoln did not violate state law by spending public funds on a $190,000 educational campaign about the quarter-cent sales tax ballot issue because the campaign didn’t amount to advocacy, the city’s attorney said. SENT: 300 words.

OMAHA KILLINGS-PRISON BEATING _ A prison inmate has been convicted of assaulting a woman who’d cooperated with authorities in the prosecution of the inmate and her brother in their Omaha murder cases.

SHOOTING-NORTHWEST OMAHA _ Authorities say an Omaha man suspected of killing a woman before shooting himself has died.

CHICKEN PLANT-FARMERS _ Dodge County supervisors have approved a scaled-back proposal for an eight-barn poultry operation that will produce thousands upon thousands of chickens for Costco.
