KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ Kristi Umbreit, a newswoman in the Knoxville bureau of The Associated Press, has been promoted to correspondent in charge of that bureau.

Nashville Chief of Bureau Kent Flanagan announced the appointment Tuesday.

Ms. Umbreit, 35, joined the AP in Louisville in 1984. She is a graduate of Memphis State University and began her journalism career with The Memphis Press-Scimitar. She is a native of Minneapolis.
