Highlands marching band to perform in Grove City College homecoming parade
The Highlands High School Varsity Marching Band will perform in the Grove City College homecoming parade on Saturday.
The parade starts at 11 a.m. at Pine and Broad streets in downtown Grove City and ends at Thorn Field, where Grove City will play Westminster College starting at 2 p.m.
Highlands band Director Matthew Beresik, also chair of the music department, is an alum of both Highlands and Grove City College. He said the college was looking to showcase alumni directors and their groups, and Highlands was contacted over the summer to see if they’d be interested in marching this year.
Grove City’s drum majors -- Brandon Johnson and Megan McGinnis -- are Highlands graduates and former students of Beresik.
“As I was told, the strength and quality of our program put us first in the running for the one-and-only opening they had for this year’s parade,” Beresik said.
“Our kids were very flattered and excited to receive this invitation,” he said. “While we have limited options to add anything else to our already busy performance schedule throughout the year, this was an opportunity the group didn’t want to pass up.”
Other high school bands performing in the parade with the college’s band include Grove City High School, Ellwood City’s Lincoln High School, Conneaut High School and Seneca Valley High School.
